I will endeavour to provide the same service next year!

A much more successful year than 2011, ( The muli strand Electric Fence made all the difference).

10 August:- 8.30am, Leighton Moss Staff arrive to cut the grass etc., round the Allen Pool; The EM Hide is being demolished at the same time! All the birds flew including the Four Avocet Chicks (Only just managing to clear the banking around the pool)! End of Mission; All the chicks have flown and it is not possible to follow their progress.

9th August:- The Four Chicks are still present. The Demolition of The Eric Morecambe Hide has been postponed for another day! The Contractors from Norfolk? are supposed to arrive on the 13th August to build the New EM Hide!

8th August:- No Change, however I suspect at least Two of The Chicks can fly. I will attempt to get to the Allen Hide tomorrow before the wrecking of the EM Hide to see what happens to the birds on The Allen Pool.

7th August:- Still Four Chicks on The Allen Pool, (They seem to favour the EM side of The Pool). I don't think this will last long when they start tearing the EM Hide down on the 9th!

6th August:- Still Four Chicks present (I have not seen a Chick fly this Month). Hopefully they will be spurred on to take fight when they start demolishing the Eric Morecambe Hide on the 9th August!

5th August:- No Change, however I have just found out that the EM Hide is to be replaced starting on the 9th August. Will the Avocet Chicks survive? Leighton Moss seem unconcerned about this!

4th August:- No Change from yesterday.

3rd August:- Still Four Chicks present (most of the Allen Pool has been trashed by Cows).

1st/2nd August:- Still Four Chicks (Plus 8 Cows), they must be ready to fly away soon!

31st July:- The same Four Chicks but One Chick was seen Flying!

30th July:- Still Four Chicks surviving.

29th July:- A day away with Lancaster Fellwalkers

28th July:- The Gallant band of Four young Chicks Survive, (Only Two Adults found)!

27th July:- A day away in Smardale.

26th July:- Chick Report; Still Four unfledged Chicks, however the four took an hour to make an appearance (Sleeping)! There was some flapping of wings today (they were not developed enough for flight)!

25th July:- Chick Report; The Four unfledged Chicks are still OK. The Bovine Invasion still continues! Hopefully the Chicks will fly soon?

24th July:- The Four unfledged Chicks have survived! Some Foolish Person has removed the Electric Fence around the Allen Pool. The Four unfledged Chicks now have no protection from Foxes!

23rd July:- Still the same Four Chicks! Will they fledge before August??? I have never known Avocet Chicks to be this late before. Most of the 2012 chicks appear to have left the site.

22nd July:- Chick Report; Four Chicks (not yet Fledged)!

21st July:- A day away on The Allerdale Ramble.

20th July:- Chick Report; Seven Chicks on The Allen Pool (Four unfledged plus Three near adults).

19th July:- Chick Report; Four Chicks on The Allen Pool (The unfledged Chicks).

18th July:- Chick Report; Eight Chicks on The Allen Pool, (Four unfledged plus Four near adults).

17th July:- A drastic Lowering of the water level on The Allen Pool! At least 30 Little Egrets gorging themselves on the small Fish which are now easier to catch! Chick Report; Eight Chicks, (Four unfledged plus Four near adult Chicks).

14th July:- Chick report; Eight Chicks on The Allen Pool, However the unfledged Chicks are well and growing!

13th July:- Chick report; Nine Chicks on The Allen Pool, However the unfledged Chicks are well and growing!

12th July:- Chick Report; Sixteen Chicks on The Allen Pool, (7am sightings) The Four unfledged Chick are still surviving!

11th July:- Chick Report; Twelve Chicks on The Allen Pool. The Fledged Chicks are coming and going daily. The Four Unfledged Chicks (2+2) are still growing fast and may fledge before the end of the month. I intend to end this exercise when all the chicks have fledged!

10th July:- Chick Report; Eleven Chicks on The Allen Pool. Two well grown Chicks have departed and there has been a return visit by a group of Four!

9th July:- Chick Report; Nine Chicks on The Allen Pool (One of the fledged Chicks has returned [Accepted by the parent birds])

8th July:- No change from yesterday!

7th July:- Chick Report; Allen Pool; Eight Chicks.

6th July:- The Flood; The electric fence has been removed on this section and there has been an invasion of cattle! Chick Report; Eight Chicks on the Allen Pool, The water level has risen due to yesterdays Monsoon Rain and All Chicks that are capable of flying have flown away!

5th July:- Chick Report; No Chicks On The Flood but groups of adults and young flying over The Saltmarsh! Twelve Chicks on The Allen Pool. One of the recently Hatched Chicks not found. A group of Five near adult Chicks have flown away since the last visit!

4th July:- Chick Report; The Flood not checked! Eighteen Chicks on The Allen Pool (same as yesterday).

3rd July:- Chick Report; No Chicks on The Flood. Eighteen Chick on The Allen Pool. Another family of Two near adult Chicks have flown from The Pool!

2nd July:- Chick Report; Two Chicks on The Flood plus Two on The EM Pool plus Twenty on The Allen Pool (The four oldest Chicks have flown away).

29th June:- Chick Report; Four Chicks on The Flood plus Twenty Four on The Allen Pool.

28th June:- Chick Report; Only Two Chicks found on The Flood! Allen Pool The same as yesterday!

27th June:- Chick Report; Six Chicks on The Flood (The Extra birds yesterday were probably just visiting). Twenty Four Chicks on The Allen Pool (One of the recently hatched broods has lost another Chick [now down to Two ] ). A lone very mature Chick is trying to join one of the established groups (It is being driven away).

26th June:- Chick report; Eleven Chicks on The Flood (Either some families have returned after The gales or the newcomers? are from The Allen Pool). Twenty Four Chicks on The Allen Pool (The Final Nest has now hatched [3 Chicks]), the new Chicks have been moved to the mud at the back of The Pool!

25th June:- Chick Report; Six Chicks on The Flood (No change) plus Twenty two on The Allen Pool. One of the recently hatched brood of four has died. The Final Nest is still incubating with One Chick visible! More families with near adult fledged birds have flown from the Allen Pool!

24th June:- Six Avocets on The Flood plus Sixteen on The Allen Pool. Chick report; Six Chicks on The Flood plus Twenty Seven on the Allen Pool. Several families from The Flood and Allen Pools have flown away from the site! This explains the much lower numbers after The Storm! Good News:- The family of Two Chicks seen yesterday are now Four (Nest deserted). I can still only see One Chick from the final Nest (The adults are still attempting to incubate more).

23rd June:- Chick Report; The Flood, Much higher water level. No Birds on The water due to strong winds! Unable to count! Allen Pool; much more sheltered, same number of Chicks as Yesterday plus One More as the final nest is Hatching Young! The Two final nests are still hatching eggs/ brooding Chicks at the Nests so there may be more Chicks soon, especially if the very strong winds and rain cease???

22nd June:- Chick Report; Thirteen Avocets on The Flood (A group of 8 seen together). Thirty Chicks on The Allen Pool. (Another Nest is hatching young [Two seen so far]). And then it rained.

21st June:- Eight Avocets on The Flood plus Six on The EM Pool plus Twenty on The Allen Pool. Chick Report; Thirteen Chicks on The Flood plus Twenty Eight on The Allen Pool. I learned today that the Four recently hatched Chicks Could not be found on the evening of 19th June.

20th June:- Eight Avocets on The Flood plus Four on The EM Pool plus Twenty Two on The Allen Pool. Chick Report; Thirteen Chicks on The Flood plus Twenty Eight on The Allen Pool. I could not find today the four recently hatched Chicks seen on the 16th/17th/18th June! If by some chance they are still on The Pools? I will be happy to put them back on the 'Chicks Surviving' total.

18th June:- Eight Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty Two on The Allen Pool. Chick Report; Thirteen Chicks on The Flood plus Thirty Two on The Allen Pool. The recently hatched Chicks have been swum over to another Island!

17th June:- Nine Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty Three on The Allen Pool. Chick Report; Thirteen Chicks on The Flood plus Thirty Two on The Allen Pool. All Four Chicks that hatched yesterday have survived. Their parents attempted to swim them over to another Island today, but had to turn back half way.

16th June:- Nine Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty One on The Allen Pool. Chick Report; Thirteen on The Flood plus Thirty Two on The Allen Pool. Sadly there has been a loss of One Chick on The Allen Pool, However Another Nest Has Hatched with Four Chicks.

15th June :- Car M.O.T, However; Twenty Two Avocets on The Allen Pool plus Twenty Nine Chicks, (The Flood impossible without a Telescope!

14th June:- No change from yesterday!

13th June:- Five Avocets on The Flood plus Three on The EM pool plus Nineteen on The Allen Pool. Chick Report; Thirteen Chicks on The Flood plus Twenty Nine on The Allen Pool.

12th June:- Eight Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty Four on The Allen Pool. Chick Report; Thirteen Chicks on The Flood plus Twenty Nine on The Allen Pool. The Chicks on The Flood are now so large it is sometimes difficult to seperate them from the adults at a range of 1 Kilometer!

11th June:- Eight Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty One on The Allen Pool. Chick Report; Thirteen Chicks on The Flood plus Twenty Nine on The Allen Pool! We appear to have lost One Chick on The Flood!

10th June:- No change re Chicks but I am beginning to think there may? be Three nests to hatch round about the 17th/18th June!

9th June:- No Change from Yesterday except the eldest Chicks are now making much more use of their wings (none have actually flown yet)!

8th June:- Eight Avocets on The Flood plus One on The EM pool plus Eighteen on The Allen Pool. Chick Report; No Change from yesterday. The water on The Allen Pool has receeded a little, (Good news for the smallest chicks as they feed mostly on the mud).

7th June:- Chick Report; Fourteen Chicks on The Flood, but they are difficult to see as they seem to be favouring the water near The Railtrack! Twenty Nine Chicks on The Allen Pool (A High Tide overnight has covered most of the exposed mud).

6th June:- Chick Report; Fourteen Chicks on The Flood some of these are exercising their wings! Twenty Nine Chicks on The Allen Pool (The single Nest must be due to hatch young now) { The greenary is so tall you can hardly see the Avocet}!

5th June:- Chick Report; Fourteen Chicks on The Flood plus Twenty Nine on The Allen Pool, no change.

4th June:- Eight Avocets on The Flood plus Two on The EM Pool plus Twenty Four on The Allen Pool. Chick report; Fourteen Chicks on The Flood plus Twenty Nine on The Allen Pool (No change from the 2nd June!

2nd June:- Chick Report; Fourteen Chicks on The Flood plus Twenty Nine On The Allen Pool. Since yesterday Five Chicks Have been lost from The Allen Pool! The latest nest hatching young now has Three Chicks (with One Egg to hatch). Only One nest now likely to hatch young in the near future.

1st June:- Nine Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty Five on The Allen Pool. Chick Report; Fourteen chicks on The Flood. Thirty Three Chicks on The Allen Pool. The nest that hatched Two days ago now has Four Chicks feeding away from the nest! There is another Nest hatching Young, (2 Chicks so far and 2 eggs yet to hatch), this nest is the one that was under water for 5/6 hours!!!!! There has been a loss of one chick on The Allen Pool. There is now only One Nest about to hatch young in the near future. The Two new Nests should have young in late June.

31st May:- Chick report; Fourteen Chicks on The Flood plus Thirty One on The Allen Pool. The Nest that was hatching yesterday now has Three Chicks!

30th May:- Nine Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty Four on The Allen Pool. Chick Report:- No change on The Flood (14 Chicks). Another Nest is hatching young on The Allen Pool, One Chick seen so far. (29 Chicks). Only Two more Nests likely to Hatch Young for the time being! It looks like Two new pair have finally settled down to the task of rearing Young, these chicks should hatch in the second half of June!

29th May:- Six Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty Five on The Allen Pool. The Nest that hatched on the 27th now has Four Chicks all feeding! Unfortunately there has been a loss of One Chick on The Flood. There is not enough Adult birds to guard the Chicks on The Flood! A new Nest now has Two Eggs, the other 'possible' nesting bird seems to be moving every day so seems unlikely to breed as yet!

28th May:- Nine Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty Six on The Allen Pool. There is now Three Chicks from the Nest that hatched yesterday! Two more Nests are being established (An Egg is visible in one of them).

27th May:- Nine Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty Eight on The Allen Pool (a Full House). There are Two Pairs of Avocets on The Allen pool trying to Establish Nests! The locals don't Welcome them. Another Nest is Hatching Chicks One Wet Chick seen so far (there will be more)! Only Three more nests to hatch young now!

26th May:- Eight Avocets on The Flood plus Twent Four on The Allen Pool. There are now only Fifteen chicks on The Flood (a loss of Three). The Nest that hatched yesterday on The Allen Pool now has Three Chicks (one I saw yesterday plus Two others) +2 and -3 = -1

25th May:- Eight Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty Four on The Allen Pool. Another Nest Hatching today. So far I have only seen One Chick (I'm sure there are more). Only Four Nests that have not Hatched young now!

24th May:- Twenty Three Avocets on The Allen Pool plus Thirteen on The Flood. The nest that hatched yesterday now has Three Chicks feeding on the waterline. No change re Chicks on The Flood.

23rd May:- Sea Mists rolling in all Day. However Another Nest is hatching young (Two Chicks seen so far). There may be more eggs to hatch?

22nd May:- No more Chicks today but the newly hatched from yesterday have been moved to a muddy edge.

21st May:- Thirteen Avocets on The Flood plus Two on The EM Pool plus Twenty Two on The Allen Pool. More Nests have hatched young! Three Families have walked from the Allen Pool to The Flood since my last visit! There are now a total of Thirty Six Chicks on Site!

19th May:- Three Avocets on The Flood plus Two on The EM Pool plus Twenty Six on The Allen Pool. Twenty Chicks found on The Allen Pool plus Five on The Flood. Another Nest is just hatching young!

18th May:- Four Avocets on The Flood plus Two on The EM Pool plus Twenty Four on The Allen Pool. There are Eight Nests still to hatch young! There are still Twenty One Chicks but they are beginning to wander (One Adult pair has Seven Chicks to look after). They have actually Two broods (4+3).

17th May:- Chick report: Still Five Chicks on The Flood plus Sixteen on The Allen Pool. Two more nests have hatched young since yesterday. The total is now Twenty One.

16th May:- Chick report: Morning, Three Chicks on The Flood. Twelve Chicks on The Allen Pool (3+3+3+3).

Afternoon, Five Chicks on The Flood (3+2). (Another Brood have been walked over from The Allen Pool and they seem to have lost one on the way)! Ten Chicks on The Allen Pool (3+3+3+1). The single is newly hatched {there will probably be more in this nest tomorrow}.

15th May:- In Brief, Three Clutches of Three plus One Avocet Chick. Plus Four Chicks on The Flood, a total of 14 Chicks!

14th May:- Morning, The Four Chicks seen yesterday, were walked over The Saltmarsh to The Flood! Afternoon, Two more nests are hatching young, I could see Three Chicks in total (2+1). There are probably unhatched Eggs in both Nests. (There are however at least Seven Chicks)!

13th May:- 8.15am, Two Avocets on The Flood plus Thirty Five on The Allen Pool, [a total of Thirty Seven] ( a rare full house). Still Four Chicks.

12th May:- 8.15am, Two Avocets on The Flood plus Thirty Two on The Allen Pool. Still Four Chicks (these have now been swum to an area of mud).

11thMay:- 7.45am to 8.45am, Two Avocets on The Flood plus Two Avocets on The EM Pool plus Thirty on The Allen Pool. Now Four Chicks Hatched. Still from the same nest as yesterday.

10th May:- 9am to 10am, Twenty Two Avocets on The Allen Pool. Two Chicks Hatched! Rain all day!

9th May:- 7.45am, Five Avocets on The Flood plus One on The EM Pool plus Twenty Three on The Allen Pool. The Nest that was underwater for 6 hours yesterday still has an Avocet trying to hatch The Eggs! I think she will be unlikely to succeed!

8th May:- 8.30am, Five Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty Eight on The Allen Pool. (16 Nests confirmed) One Nest Flooded by the High Tides overnight. The female on the underwater nest was attempting to brood the eggs underwater!

7th May:- Four Avocets on The Flood plus Thirty Three on The Allen Pool. A possible 16th nest today, I will confirm this tomorrow!

6th May:- 8.30am, Six Avocets on The Flood plus Six on The EM Pool plus Twenty Five on The Allen Pool (Still 15 Nesting Pairs but the latest recruit is taking a long time to produce a clutch)!

5th May:- Eight Avocets on The EM Pool plus Twenty Nine on The Allen Pool (Still 15 Nesting Pairs).

4th May:- 8.30am, Ten Avocets on The Flood. The Nests have had Thermal Loggers placed in them so it was no use trying to count birds till they had all returned!

3rd May:- 6.30am, Ten Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty Seven on The Allen Pool. Fifteen nesting Pairs. There should be Chicks sometime next week!

2nd May:- 9am, Two Avocets on The Flood plus Thirty on The Allen Pool. Disturbance by Preditors hence the lower numbers. (Still 13 nesting pairs but more yet to be confirmed)

30th April:- 11am, Twenty One Avocets on The Flood "not feeding" plus Sixteen on The Allen Pool (a total of 37). There must have been a Predator alarm on the Allen Pool to cause so many birds to fly to The Flood.

29th April:- 8.30am, One Avocet on The Flood plus Thirty Six on The Allen Pool (a total of 37). All the wanderers have now returned. Thirteen Nesting Pairs.

28th April:- 9am, Two Avocets on The Flood plus Thirty Two on The Allen Pool. (still a total of 34) Twelve Nesting Pairs!

27th April:- Two Avocets on The Flood plus Thirty Two on The Allen Pool. (a total of 34). Still Eleven nesting pairs.

26th April:- Four Avocets on The Flood plus One on The EM Pool plus Twenty Seven on The Allen Pool (A total of 32). There are now at least Eleven Nesting Pairs.

25th April:- One Avocet on The Flood plus Thirty One on The Allen Pool (a total of 32). It looks like the Wanderers have returned. Ten Nesting Pairs found today!

24th April:- One Avocet on The Flood plus Twenty Eight on The Allen Pool (a total of 39). There are now at least Nine Nesting Pairs.

23rd April:- One Avocet on The Flood plus Twenty Seven on The Allen Pool.

21st April:- 8am, Five Avocets on The Flood plus One on The EM Pool plus Twenty Two on The Allen Pool, (a total of 28). Two more nest found There are now at least Seven Nesting Pairs.

20th April:- 8am, Four Avocets on The Flood plus One on The EM pool plus Twenty Seven on The Allen Pool. There are now at least Five Nesting Pairs!

19th April:- 10am, Two Avocets on The Flood plus Thirty on The Allen Pool. Nesting pairs as yesterday but there should be more soon.

18th April:- 9.30am, One Avocet on The Flood plus Thirty on The Allen Pool. Two Avocets confirmed sitting today.

17th April:- 9.30am, Thirty Avocets on The Allen Pool, at least one Avocet now confirmed Sitting! No Avocets on The Flood.

16th April:- 2pm, Fifteen Avocets on The Allen Pool. There may be more on The Flood but the sun is blinding at this time of day. Possibly Two Avocets sitting (but they may just resting) another visit needed to confirm! It seems The Avocets were disturbed by a Peregrine before I Arrived!

15th April:- A day away in The Craven Dales.

14th April:- 8.30am, Three Avocets on The Flood plus Thirty One on The Allen Pool, (a total of 34). The slow recovery in numbers continues.

13th April:- 8.30am, Two Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty Six on The Allen Pool ( A total of 28), However JW had Thirty Two Avocets (perhaps they are drifting back after the storms of recent days).

12th April:- 9.30am, Twenty Eight Avocets on The Allen Pool, a slight increase on yesterday. Still no definite sightings of sitting birds.

11th April:- 9am, Three Avocets on The Flood plus Two on The EM pool plus Nineteen on The Allen Pool (a total of 24). The water level is going down very slowly.

10th April:- 11.30am, Twenty Four Avocets on The Allen Pool. Most of the islands are under water because of the recent high tides. None of the Avocets were feeding, just sheltering from the wind!

9th April:- Rain all day! The Saltmarsh is flooded, there was a 10 metre Plus Tide, however JW found 28 Avocets mainly on the Flood. High tide flooded marsh and pools.

7th April:- 8.30am, One Avocet on The EM Pool plus Thirty Six on The Allen Pool (a total of 37). Still not sure about the breeding situation!

6th April:- 8am, Two Avocets on The Flood plus Three on The EM Pool plus Thirty One on The Allen Pool (a total of 36).

5th April:- 10.30am, Nine Avocets on The EM Pool plus Twenty Five on The Allen Pool (A total of 34).

4th April:- 9am, Thirty One Avocets on The Allen Pool, the only pool that has any shelter from the biting cold winds!

3rd April:- A return to Winter today, just the usual English Weather. (No Snow)

2nd April:- 12.30pm, Fourteen Avocets on The Flood plus Nineteen on The Allen Pool (A total of 33).

1st April:- 9.30am, Seven Avocets on The Flood plus One on The EM Pool plus Sixteen on The Allen Pool. One Nesting Pair found (there are probably more)! JW saw Thirty Two Avocets in total!

31st March:- 9am, Four Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty one on The Allen Pool. The decline in numbers continues, however I am unable to see part of The Flood because of the Railway Embankment and there may be more Avocets there?

30th March:- 9.30am, Twenty two Avocets on The Allen Pool plus Two on The EM Pool plus Five on The Flood (A total of 29 Avocets)! There were another Eight birds yesterday, are these birds still local or were they just passing through?? Several pair seem to be in The Mood for Breeding on The Allen Pool!

29th March:- 10am, Twenty Four Avocets on The flood plus Five on The EM Pool plus Six on The Allen Pool. (A total of 35 Avocets, all seen from The Viewpoint). Still very flighty, most of the birds were on The Allen Pool earlier in the day!

28th March:- 8am, Thirty Avocets on The Allen Pool. Much looking for Nest Sites on the islands. No definite nests found as yet.

27th March:- 8am, Four Avocets on The Flood plus Sixteen on The Allen Pool. JW had 4+18 which would be a Full House!

26th March:- 1pm, Two Avocets on The Flood plus Eighteen on The Allen Pool. Report in LM Log 28 Avocets seen?

24th March:- 9am, Five Avocets on The Flood plus Five on The EM Pool plus Six on The Allen Pool. Some mating activity, at least Six Pairs.

23rd March:- 9am, Three Avocets on The Flood plus Twelve on The EM Pool. It could be the Seven missing birds are feeding locally, or they may just be passing through!

22nd March:- 9am, Four Avocets on The Flood plus Four on The EM Pool plus Fourteen on The Allen Pool. Still very flighty, most of the bird were on The Flood in the afternoon.

21st March:- 8.30am, Seventeen Avocets on The Flood. Much Wanderings, no sign of settling down to breed as yet.

20th March:- A day away on The Westmorland Silurians!

19th March:- 11.45am, Ten Avocets on The EM Pool plus Seven on The Allen Pool. Much flying about between the Pools.

18th March:- 8am, Seven Avocets on The Flood plus Three on The Allen Pool. The Avocets are still very mobile and there are probably more birds feeding out on The Salt Marsh.

17th March:- 10am, Two Avocets on The Flood plus Six on The Eric Morecambe Pool plus Three on The Allen Pool.

16th March:- 9am, Fifteen Avocets on The Allen Pool. At least Four Pair present, the remainder are pobably newcomers.

15th March:- 11am, Four Avocets on The Flood plus Six on The Allen Pool. More mating today and there was also some scraping (preparation for Nesting)

14th March:- 8am, Four Avocets on The Flood. There may be more Avocets out on The Saltmarsh!

13th March:- 8am, Six Avocets on The Flood. Two definite pairs one of which were mating! Bittern Booming today at Leighton Moss (Tuning Up).

12th March:- 12.30pm, Two Avocets on The Flood. Is this the beginning of the end or the end of the beginning???

11th March:- A day away with Lancaster Fellwalkers

10th March:- 9am, Five Avocets on The Allen Pool.

9th March:- 8.15am, Five Avocets on The Allen Pool. 2pm, No change but the Saltmarsh and Pools are flooded (High Tide). Most of the Islands are under water!

8th March:- 9.15am, Five Avocets on The Allen Pool. Compare this with 72 Avocets at Martin Mere!

7th March:- 8.15am, Seven Avocets on The Allen Pool. Disturbed by a Raptor and flew to The EM Pool.

6th March:- A day away in Glencoynedale

5th March:- 12pm, Four Avocets on The Flood plus One Avocet on the EM Pool!

4th March:- 11.30am, Seven Avocets on The Allen Pool. It looks like many of the recent birds are birds of passage!

3rd March:- 11am, Twelve Avocets on The Flood.

2nd March:- 8am, Nine Avocets on The Allen Pool, seen flying to The Flood later. (LM Log)

1st March:- 10am, Six Avocets on The EM Pool. 2pm Six Avocets on The Allen Pool. New Blood?

29th February:- Still only One avocet on The Flood, However an influx of 35 Avocets at Martin Mere. Perhaps some of these birds may be heading north!

27th February:- One Avocet seen on The Flood from the Eric Morecambe Hide. Perhaps the birds from yesterday have flown to "The Land of The Celts"

26th February:- Seven Avocets at Eric Morecambe Pools. (John Wilson)

24th February:- Martin Mere Avocet numbers were up to Six today

20th February:- Martin Mere The first of the returning Avocet flew in today, three birds, still present late afternoon from the Ron Barker Hide. These birds are a little latter than the first birds of 2011, but this isn't too surprising as the recent cold snap will have made them think twice before heading this far North.
