29th June:- No Avocets found on The EM or Allen Pools. There is no point in continuing this exercise as there is not likely to be any fledged Chicks this year.

28th June:- A day away with Lancaster Fellwalkers,

27th June:- Eleven Avocets on The Flood plus Two Avocets on The Allen Pool. Now only One Nest! The EM Pool is nearly Dry!

26th June:- Seventeen Avocets on The Flood plus One Avocet on The EM Pool plus Three Avocets on The Allen Pool. Two Nests found, No Chicks!

25th June:- Fourteen Avocets on The Flood plus Six Avocets on The EM Pool plus Six Avocets on The Allen Pool. Two Nests found, both observed when Adults were changing over duties several times (No Chicks seen).

24th June:- Thirteen Avocets on The Flood plus Two Avocets on The EM Pool plus Six Avocets on The Allen Pool. Only Two Nests found (The Chick seen yesterday was not found)

23rd June:- A day away on The Wyre, however One Small Avocet Chick was seen on The Allen Pool (Leighton Moss Log)!

22nd June:- Twenty One Avocets on The Flood plus Seven Avocets on The EM Pool plus Eight Avocets on The Allen Pool. Only Three Nests found, Two Abandoned Nests since yesterday! No Chicks found.

21st June:- Seventeen Avocets on The Flood plus Eighteen Avocets on The EM pool plus Thirteen Avocets on The Allen Pool. Only Five Nests found. No Chicks found. This is now looking like The End Game!

20th June:- Rain. Rain. Rain.Mist,Mist,Mist, Then at 4pm:- One Chick on The Allen Pool and The Largest Chick on The EM Pool doing Walkabout. Will it be there tomorrow???

19th June:- 8am, Six Avocets on The Flood plus Four Avocets on The EM pool plus Twenty Three Avocets on The Allen Pool. Nine Chicks Found! (Chicks are Bursting out all Over)!

18th June:- Six Avocets on The Flood plus Seventeen Avocets on The EM Pool plus Thirty Two Avocets on The Allen Pool. Still One Chick surviving! Another Two Nests found!

17th June:- Twelve Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty Avocets on The EM Pool plus Twenty One Avocets on The Allen Pool. One Chick found (The Two Chicks seen on the 15th not found). The only Nest on The Flood has been Abandoned/Predated!

16th June:- A day away on The Wyre.

15th June:- Twenty Two Avocets on The Flood plus Three Avocets on The EM Pool plus Thirty Three Avocets on The Allen Pool. Two Chicks surviving from The 13th Trio have been walked to The EM pool. They seem to be heading for The Flood/? A single much older Chick is still on The Allen Pool!

13th June:- Eleven Avocets on The Flood plus Fifteen Avocets on The EM Pool plus Thirty Avocets on The Allen Pool. Four Chicks found (A nest with Three Chicks has hatched since my last visit).

12th June:- A Car-Free Day!

11th June:- Six Avocets on The Flood plus Fourteen Avocets on The EM Pool plus Thirty Three Avocets on The Allen Pool a total of 53 (there are new birds about, or four Pairs have decided to try again). Seventeen Nests found And One Chick!

10th June:- Five Avocets on The Flood plus Six Avocets on The EM Pool plus Twenty Three Avocets on The Allen Pool. Thirteen Nests found, Two of which were Newly found! Still only One Chick surviving.

9th June:- A day away on The Wyre.

8th June:- Seven Avocets on The Flood plus Six Avocets on The EM Pool plus Twenty Eight Avocets on The Allen Pool. Eleven Nests found including a newly established Nest! Only One Chick found.

7th June:- A day away in The Northern Lake District.

6th June:- Four Avocets on The Flood plus Six Avocets on The EM Pool plus Thirty Six Avocets on The Allen Pool. Five Chicks found. Chicks spend most of the time being Brooded due to the strong cold winds.

5th June:- Eleven Avocets on The Flood plus Three Avocets on The EM Pool plus Thirty Avocets on The Allen Pool. Ten Nests Found. Five Chicks found Two of which were Newly Hatched.

4th June:- Four Avocets on The Flood plus Two Avocets on The EM Pool plus Thirty Avocets on The Allen Pool. Three Chicks found (Two Chicks missing since yesterday)!

3rd June:- Four Avocets on The Flood plus Six Avocets on The EM Pool plus Twenty Eight Avocets on The Allen Pool. Twelve Nests found. Five Chicks found including Two New Hatchlings.

2nd June:- A day away on The Wyre.

1st June:- Four Avocets on The Flood plus Eleven Avocets on The EM Pool plus Twenty Seven Avocets on The Allen Pool. Thirteen Nests found. A Nest with Three Chicks seen (The first Nest with Three young I have seen this year). Only One Chick survived from The 30th May!

31st May:- A day away with Lancaster Fellwalkers,

30th May:- Fourteen Avocets on The Flood plus Two Avocets on The EM Pool plus Twenty Three Avocets on The Allen Pool. Still Two Chicks.

29th May:- Ten Avocets on The Flood plus Four Avocets on The EM Pool plus Twenty Nine Avocets on The Allen Pool. Fifteen Nests Found. Another Chick Hatched but the Two newly hatched Chicks seen yesterday and another much older Chick could not be found. (4+1-3=2)! Possible? Nesting on Another Pool seen!

28th May:- Four Avocets on The Flood plus Thirty Seven Avocets on The Allen Pool. Four Chicks seen Two of which were newly hatched! Sixteen Nests found.

27th May:- Four Avocets in The Flood plus Three Avocets on The EM Pool plus Thirty Eight Avocets on The Allen Pool. Now only Fourteen Nests and Three Chicks surviving!

26th May:- A day away on The Wyre. However Four Chicks seen by AN Other!

25th May:- Five Avocets on The Flood plus Two Avocets on The EM Pool plus Thirty Six Avocets on The Allen Pool. Still Sixteen Nests and Nine Chicks, One of which was newly hatched

24th May:- Four Avocets on The Flood plus One Avocet on The EM Pool plus Forty One Avocets on The Allen Pool. Still Eleven Chicks but there has been Two Losses and Two New Chicks since yesterday!

23rd May:- One Avocet on The Flood plus Two Avocets on The EM Pool plus Fifty Three Avocets on The Allen Pool. Eleven Chicks seen, Nine of which were newly hatched! Another nest Abandoned since last visit!

22nd May:- PM:- Thirty Six Avocets on The Allen Pool. Twenty Two Nests Found (includes a New Nest). One of the Chicks seen yesterday has survived. Another Nest now has Two Chicks.(4-1=3).

21st May:- AM:- Ten Avocets on The EM Pool plus Fifty Avocets on The Allen Pool. Twenty Two Nests (another Nest found). No Chicks found. PM:- Two newly hatched Chicks found (Two were also seen yesterday after I Left)[not seen today]!

20th May:- Five Avocets on The Flood plus Seven Avocets on The EM Pool plus Forty Eight Avocets on The Allen Pool. Twenty One Nests but no Chicks found!

19th May:- A day away on The Wyre.

18th May:- Rain. Rain. Rain. Then at 2pm:- Forty Avocets on The Allen Pool. Twenty One Nests found. There were Two Chicks until one was taken by a BH Gull!

17th May:- A day away with Lancaster Fellwalkers,

16th May:- Sixteen Avocets On The Flood plus Six Avocets on The EM Pool plus Fifty Three Avocets on the Allen Pool. Only Five Chicks found (the parent birds are reluctant to release Chicks because of the Strong Cold Winds).

15th May:- Six Avocets on The Flood plus Six Avocets on The EM Pool plus Fifty Six Avocets on The Allen Pool. Only Five Chicks found today! There should be more Hatchings soon!

14th May:- Five Avocets on The Flood plus Six Avocets on The EM Pool plus Sixty Avocets on The Allen Pool. Six Chicks seen Three of which were new from yesterday. I suspect there are more Chicks behind the Island but this area cannot be seen from either Hide!

13th May:- One Avocet on The Flood plus Ten Avocets on The EM pool plus Fifty Seven Avocets on The Allen Pool. Seven Chicks Hatched and another Nest has failed!

12th May:- A day away on The Wyre.

11th May:- Twelve Avocets on The Flood plus Nine Avocets on The EM Pool plus Fifty Two Avocets on The Allen Pool. Near Gale Force Gusts today, no Chicks found!

10th May:- Six Avocets On the Flood plus Eight Avocets on The EM Pool plus Forty Eight Avocets on The Allen Pool 9.30am:- Two chicks Seen. 1 30pm No Chicks found! They did not survive One Day!

9h May:- Three Avocets on The Flood plus One Avocet on The EM pool plus Fifty Seven Avocets on The Allen Pool

8th May:- Fourteen Avocets on The EM pool plus Fifty Six Avocets on The Allen Pool. Another Nest has Failed (Predated/Abandoned).

7th May:- Four Avocets on The Flood plus Seventeen Avocets on The EM pool plus Fifty Two Avocets on The Allen Pool. Another Nest found (no Chicks seen as yet).

6th May:- Three Avocets on The Flood plus Fifteen Avocets on The EM Pool plus Forty Six Avocets on The Allen Pool. No Change in The Nest Count! All The Pools have raised Water Levels due to the Recent Heavy Rains!

5th May:- A day away on The Wyre.

4th May:- Two Avocets on The Flood plus Eighteen Avocets on The EM Pool plus Fifty Avocets on The Allen Pool. Another Nest has failed but todays count is the same.

30th April:- Nineteen Avocets on The EM Pool plus Fifty Seven Avocets on The Allen Pool. Thirty Two Pairs incubating! There may be Chicks within Seven Days!

29th April:- Two Avocets on The Flood plus Eighteen on The EM Pool plus Forty Eight Avocets on The Allen Pool and again One Avocet on Lilians Pool with Six Ruff and One Hundred Black Tailed Godwit. Twenty Six Pairs Incubating!

28th April:- A day away on The Wyre.

27th April:- Two Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty One Avocets on The EM Pool plus Fifty Seven Avocets on The Allen Pool. There was also One Avocet feeding on Lilians Pool, (The Water is low and is attracting several Waders)!

26th April:- Five Avocets on The Flood Plus Fourteen Avocets on The EM pool plus Fifty Avocets on The Allen Pool. There are now at least Twenty Five Pairs Incubating!

25th April:- Four Avocets on The Flood plus Fourteen Avocets on The EM pool plus Forty Five Avocets on The Allen Pool. The Non Breeding Birds are probably sheltering in the Leighton Moss Reeds!

24th April:- One Avocet on The Flood plus Fourteen Avocets on The EM Pool plus Sixty Five Avocets on The Allen Pool. Twenty Pairs Incubating including Two Pair on new Islands.

23rd April:- Seven Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty One Avocets on The EM pool plus Forty Five Avocets on The Allen Pool. There are now Nineteen Pairs Incubating.

22nd April:- Eleven Avocets on The Flood plus Sixteen Avocets on The EM pool plus Thirty Nine Avocets on The Allen Pool. Another abandoned Nest Found. Sixteen Avocets were seen flying towards the Main Reserve by Kevin Kelly.

21st April:- A day away on The Wyre.

20th April:- Four Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty Five Avocets on The EM Pool plus Fifty Avocets on The Allen Pool. At least Fifteen Pairs Incubating. Two Nests Predated/Abandoned!

16th April:- Three Avocets on The Flood plus Nine Avocets on The EM Pool plus Fifty Six Avocets on The Allen Pool. At least Four Pairs incubating. However John Wilson saw Eighty One Avocets later in the day.

15th April:- Almost impossible viewing Conditions! However there are now at least Two Pairs Incubating!

13th April:- Fifteen Avocets on The Flood plus Fifteen Avocets on The EM Pool plus Forty Four Avocets on The Allen Pool.

11th April:- Twenty Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty Four on The EM Pool plus Thirty Five on The Allen Pool. There was a Report of 100 plus Avocets????

10th April:- 7 to 8am, Eleven Avocets on The Flood plus Thirty Five Avocets on The EM Pool plus Twenty Nine Avocets on The Allen Pool. No Sitting Birds as yet, There were no Avocets on The Islands!

9th April:- Twenty Five Avocets on The Flood plus One Avocet on The EM pool plus Fifty Four Avocets on The Allen Pool. Several Pairs preparing to nest but no definite sites as yet!

8th April:- Twenty Avocets on The Flood plus Sixteen Avocets On The EM Pool plus Thirty Avocets on The Allen Pool. An Avocet observed Scraping today (to make a Nest)!

1st April:- Four Avocets on The Flood plus Three Avocets on The EM Pool plus Twenty Six Avocets on The Allen Pool. No Change re the recent foul weather. March certainly did not go out like a Lamb!

31st March:- A day away on The Wyre, however John Wilson Saw Thirty Eight Avocets on The Pools.

30th March:- Six Avocets on The Flood plus Four Avocets on The EM Pool plus Twenty Six Avocets on The Allen Pool. Weather slightly less inclement. No pre Nesting behaviour today.

29th March:- Thirty Six Avocets on The Allen Pool. One pair are trying to establish a Nest in the teeth of a howling Gale!

28th March:- Rain. Rain. Rain. Then at 11am, Forty Five Avocets on The Allen Pool. The Wanderers have returned, The Gale force wind and rain has made them seek shelter!

27th March:- A Day Away in The Central Lake District, however John Wilson saw Thirty Two Avocets on The Pools! This seems to be the stable population at the moment.

26th March:- Four Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty Avocets on The Allen Pool. Three Pairs looking for Nest Sites on The Allen Pool!

25th March:- 8am, Eight Avocets on The Flood plus Eleven Avocets on The Allen Pool. Where have all The Avocets gone??? At least One Pair Prospecting for a Nest Site!

24th March:- A day away on The Wyre.

23rd March:- 1pm, A 10.2 metre Tide! Thirty Avocets on The Allen Pool. The Pools are too deep for The Avocets to feed (High Tide). All The Avocets I saw were on one of the Islands on The Allen Pool!

22nd March:- A day away with Lancaster Fellwalkers,

21st March:- Sixteen Avocets on The EM Pool plus Eighteen Avocets on The Allen Pool.

20th March:- Mist, Slightly clearing. Fifteen Avocets on The Flood plus Sixteen Avocets on The EM Pool plus Eleven Avocets on The Allen Pool. Much publicity about an Eclipse, solid cloudbase and thick mist here. The Sun not visible till After Noon!

19th March:- Twenty Avocets on The Flood plus Five Avocets on The EM Pool plus Seventeen Avocets on The Allen Pool. A Rare clear day at last!

18th March:- 1 to 2pm, Fourteen Avocets on The Flood plus Seventeen Avocets on The Allen Pool. Viewing conditions, almost impossible, I could easily have missed some birds.

16th March:- 10pm, Fifteen Avocets on The Flood plus Seventeen Avocets on The Allen Pool. There was Report of Fifty Four Avocets Yesterday?? Maybe they were passing through!

6th March:- 7.30 to 8.30am, Sixteen Avocets on The Allen Pool. Several pair are now Mating!

5th March:- 11am, Thirteen Avocets on The Allen Pool.

4th March:- Four Avocets on The Allen Pool. Three Avocets seen on the Saltmarsh from a passing Train.

3rd March:- A day away on The Wyre, however Sixty Six Avocets at Martin Mere.

2nd March:- Again no Avocets found! The few birds that were present were mostly sheltering.

1st March:- No Avocets found. They are probably sheltering from the force 6 to 8 winds, or have gone to pastures new!

28th February:- 9am, Seven Avocets on The Allen Pool.

27th February:- 7.30 to 8 30am, Three Avocets on The Allen Pool. The multi strand Electric Fence was put up yesterday around the Allen Pool to keep The Fox's out! Forty Four Avocets at Martin Mere (perhaps some may overfly North)?

26th February:- 10am, One Avocet had been seen on the Allen Pool prior to my arrival! All the birds had been frightened off by RSPB Staff working on The Pools. The Viewpoint was not accessible due to parking problems and a flooded road!

25th February:- One Avocet on The Flood plus One Avocet on The Allen Pool. My first sightings of The Year!

24th February:- A day away on The Wyre, however Eighteen Avocets reported at Martin Mere.

23rd February:- One Avocet reported on The EM Complex by John Wilson see Link . Eleven Avocets at Martin Mere Link

22nd February:- Two Avocets reported on The Allen Pool see Link . I was away at Bassenthwaite with Lancaster Fellwalkers.

19th February:- Six Avocets at Martin Mere, no great influx as yet and no Avocet sightings on the Fylde Bird Club site Link.

16th February:- Three Avocets at Martin Mere see Link ,perhaps they may return to Leighton Moss soon?

13th February:- Seven Avocets at Cley Marshes (Pat's Pool) Norfolk [Wildlife Trust].
